'Spooky Season' has officially kicked off in East Texas. People are putting out Halloween decorations, watching scary movies, and participating in all things spooky.

Generally speaking, when you think about "haunted East Texas", Jefferson is the first place to come to mind - at least for me. They have the haunted hotels and ghost stories for days. Heck, according to legend, a stay at the Excelsior Hotel scared the heck out of Steven Spielberg and inspired the movie Poltergeist. Texas as a whole is one of America's most haunted states.

But, Lufkin and the surrounding area is no slouch in the spooky department either.

From haunted cemeteries to haunted houses, Lufkin has it covered. While some of the subjects of Lufkin urban legend have disappeared - the old Bonner Mansion was torn down and the Peavy House burned down - there's still plenty of 'haunted' spots in and around Lufkin. In 2004, there was a Chupacabra allegedly shot in Pollok.

The area is filled with stories of cryptids, ghosts, spirts, and the supernatural. Are any of these urban legends and ghost stories true? You never can tell. But many of these stories aren't isolated and have been passed on for generations.
