Latest Hurricane Alerts, Advisories for Deep East Texas

The situation in Deep East Texas ahead of Hurricane Laura remains very fluid. With that in mind, we will use this site as a landing area for updated alerts and advisories concerning the Pineywoods.

Weather (updated 7:00 am , 8/27) -

Hurricane warnings for Shelby, Sabine, and San Augustine Counties have now been replaced by Tropical Storm warnings.
7am advisory - Laura now with top winds at 100 mph. Center of storm near Leesville. Tropical storm force gusts still possible in East Texas through the morning.
Flash Flood Warning in effect until 8 am for Sabine, Tyler and Jasper Counties.
Hurricane warnings for Angelina and Nacogdoches counties have been changed to tropical storm warnings.
1 am advisory - Laura has made landfall near Cameron as a Category 4 hurricane with winds at 150 mph, one of the strongest hurricanes to make landfall in the US.
10 pm advisory - Laura still a strong Category 4 hurricane with 150 mph winds. Just several hours now before landfall so little or no strengthening expected during that time. Laura will make landfall as a stronger hurricane than Rita or Katrina.
Tornado watch is in effect until 8am for Sabine, Jasper, Tyler, Shelby, San Augustine, and Newton Counties.
7 pm advisory - Laura now has top winds of 150 mph. Landfall expected a little after midnight near Cameron, LA.
4 pm advisory - Laura now has top winds of 145 mph. It could strengthen even more before landfall late tonight near Cameron, Louisiana.
Tornado watch until 9 pm for Angelina, Nacogdoches, Shelby, San Augustine, Sabine, Tyler, and Jasper Counties.
Tornado warning until 2:45 for Southern Tyler County.
Mandatory evacuation for Tyler County. Overnight curfew in Tyler County
1 pm advisory - Laura now a Category 4 Hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. More strengthening is still possible. Laura may weaken a little just before landfall around midnight tonight. Storm continues to move northwestward.
10 am advisory - maximum sustained winds now at 125 mph. More strengthening is forecast before landfall late tonight. Laura is now expected to be a Category 4 (130 mph or greater winds) storm upon landfall. National Hurricane Center describes the storm surge along the southwestern Louisiana coast as 'unsurvivable'.
7 am advisory - maximum sustained winds now at 115 mph. Forecast track and strengthening is in line with the 4 am advisory. Landfall near Cameron, Louisiana is expected late tonight. The storm's inland track takes it over Toledo Bend Reservoir, so persons in Newton, Jasper, and Sabine Counties can expect the worst of the storm and highest wind gusts throughout the morning Thursday.
4 am advisory - maximum sustained winds now at 110 mph. Laura is expected to intensify to 130 mph within the next 12-24 hours, a Category 4 Hurricane, however, it is still forecast to make landfall as a Cat 3 hurricane with top sustained winds at 120.
1 am advisory - maximum sustained winds now at 105 mph as Laura continues to rapidly intensify.
10 pm advisory - maximum sustained winds now at 90 mph. Laura is expected to have top winds of 120 mph at landfall late Wednesday/early Thursday. The track cone still shows landfall happening somewhere near the Texas/Louisiana border.
Hurricane Warning has now been extended to include Angelina, Nacogdoches, San Augustine, Sabine, and Shelby Counties. Tropical Storm Warning now in effect for Cherokee, Rusk, and Panola Counties.
Flash Flood Watch in effect through Friday for most of the Pineywoods
7 pm advisory - maximum sustained winds now at 85 mph, no changes to projected track or forecast strength at landfall
4 pm advisory indicates no major changes from the 1 pm advisory.
1 pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center indicates no major changes in the track of the storm in its projected strengthening. Laura is still expected to make landfall near Port Arthur as a Major Category 3 Hurricane with top sustained winds of 115 mph.
Hurricane Warning for Polk, Tyler, Jasper, and Newton Counties. A Hurricane Warning means that hurricane force winds (greater than 74mph) are expected within the warned area within 48 hours of the issuance of the warning.
Tropical storm warning for Trinity and Houston Counties. This means that tropical storm force winds (greater than 39 and up to 74 mph) are expected within the warned area within 48 hours of the issuance of the warning.

Pilgrim’s Nacogdoches will release second shift employees EARLY on Wednesday, August 26^th and 3^rd shift operations will be suspended. On August 26^th the following 3^rd shift employees will be working their normal shift: shipping, maintenance, plant services, and wastewater employees. On Thursday, August 27^th, first shift operations will be suspended. Second and third shift will work as normal with a 2:48 pm start time for first processing
