The Hawaiian flag and the Lone Star Flag are the only two state flags that served as the flag of an independent nation. The Republic of Texas adopted it on January 25, 1839.

Our Flag Looks Like That Because We Were Crushing Hard On The U.S.

They likely used the design, which alludes to the American flag, to foreshadow their future hope for the nation to become part of the U.S.

Though many Texans are proud that we were once our own nation, according to history.state.gov we were making googly eyes at the United States from the start; however, they initially declined our offer to join the union.

If you were to look at the American Flag and the Texas flag as just two graphics, knowing nothing else about the countries or people they represent, which would you think came first?

The Texas flag is just so lonely, and when it was adopted we were on our own, so it makes sense.

When the 26th star was added after Michigan became a state in 1837 some think the U.S. flag looked much like it does now, but with fewer rows of stars.
