The Mike Love and Associates Law Firm 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular with K-Fox 955, and the City of Lufkin will not happen for 2020. This would have been the 15th year that the event had been revived by Mike Love.

In a memo from Lufkin Parks and Recreation Director Micheal Flinn they detail the reasons that the event will not go forward this year.  Of course the Covid-19 deaths and infections that continue to rise in our area would be the main one.

The Ellen Trout Park is the backdrop that we usually celebrate our nation's independence. The Zoo has reopened, and most likely still will be open on the 4th of July.

The virus has taken the vendors, live music, and what is always an amazing show with the music choreographed to the music on K-Fox 955. Here is the press release from the City.

Lufkin July 4th Festival Cancelled

Due to concerns over large crowds, the ability to social distance, and the uncertainty over when the ability to host large festivals will come from the governor, the City of Lufkin has made the difficult decision to cancel the July 4th festival and fireworks for 2020.  “A lot of time and deep concern was put into this difficult decision between wanting to host the event but also to do it safely so that we not only are in compliance with the Governor’s orders but also operating in the best way to keep our citizens safe.  Mike Love & Associates Law Firm has been a great partner in this and we share their disappointment in not being able to host the event this year” said Mike Flinn, Parks and Recreation Director.
