Thursday afternoon, Lufkin Police responded to a two-vehicle accident which injured several individuals including one woman who was flown to a Tyler hospital. The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Loop 287/Ellen Trout Drive and Sayers Street.

This morning, Lufkin Police released an update to the details of yesterday's accident. The woman flown to Tyler is identified as Kailyn Walker, 23, of Lufkin. She remains at UT Health – Tyler in extremely critical condition. Walker was the front seat passenger of a Hyundai Sonata driven by Marcus Williams, 39, of Lufkin. Walker’s boyfriend, Kendrick Wortham, 26, of Lufkin, and Kevin Page, 24, of Lufkin, were the backseat passengers.

According to the police report, Williams attempted to cross the intersection of Sayers Street at Ellen Trout Drive into the path of an eastbound Toyota 4Runner driven by Terri Wilkie, 38, of Zavalla. Based on severe front end damage to the 4Runner and severe passenger-side damage to the Sonata, it appears the car was T-boned on its passenger side by the SUV.

The 4Runner rolled on impact, while the car veered off the road, went through a tree line and crashed into a creek. Walker was trapped in the partially submerged vehicle while Williams, Wortham and Page managed to escape. Williams and Wortham went to a local hospital by ambulance while Page was checked out at the scene.

It took firefighters roughly 30 minutes to free Walker from the vehicle. A medical helicopter landed at the scene and transported Walker to the Tyler hospital.

Wilkie and her mother, Nathalea Conger, 58, of Zavalla, who was a passenger in the 4Runner, both sought treatment at a local hospital. Wilkie went by private vehicle while her mother went by ambulance.

Williams will be cited for fail to yield the right of way, no insurance and displaying the wrong plates.

The crash remains under investigation.

We ask for prayers for all those involved, especially for those most seriously injured.
