Don't be fooled by the caller ID on your phone; you never know who you are talking to on the other line. Criminals are getting more high-tech, and they can make your phone say anything they think will make you part with your money.
According to the Lufkin Crime Stoppers Facebook page, a scam has happened to a resident. Criminals are calling and posing as Lufkin Police Department officers. They are making the outrageous claim that cartels are targeting them and accessing their bank accounts.

The calls that went out had the correct number and caller ID information, but the things they asked for are the only reason that you would have been tipped off. You can protect your family and yourself from this scam.
Law Enforcement Officers Will Never Call You Demanding Money Over The Phone
The biggest takeaway from all the cybersecurity training is to slow things down. If someone is coming at you with any urgent call to action, hang up and call the agency they are allegedly from.
Even if you live in a "don't call the police ever for any reason" household, call them so you know the truth before handing over any of your hard-earned money.
