More Lufkin Police Standoff Arrest Details Released
On Sunday June 9, 2024 in Lufkin, Texas Jason Penick, 46, barricaded himself in his in-law's house in the 700 block of Clark Avenue. Now the Lufkin Daily News has shared the arrest affidavit from the Lufkin Police Department.
According to the affidavit, the Lufkin Police Department received reports of an armed barricaded man. Police showed up at the house and at some point, the daughter of the suspect told them Penick was going to shoot any officer that entered the house.
Penick allegedly used a wooden stock .22 rifle to shoot rounds near the responding officers. LPD said Penick was yelling and throwing things inside the house.
They also stated hearing a gunshot originating from inside the home.
Officers Evacuate The Home And Work To Get Barricaded Man
Officers removed the family from the home, according to Jessica Pebsworth, communications director for the City of Lufkin. Then they began working to get Penick out of the house.
Once officers set up a perimeter around the structure, they were told by yet another family member that Penick was intending to shoot police, according to the affidavit.
At some point, gas canisters were launched into the house during the standoff. Ultimately they got Penick out of the house in the early hours of June 10.
Luckily there were no injuries reported.
Penick Charged With Aggravated Assault With A Deadly Weapon
According to the Angelina County Jail, Jason Scott Penick received two felony charges. The first was evading arrest/detention with a vehicle from the Angelina County Sheriff.
There was no mention of a vehicle in the arrest affidavit. That third-degree felony charge has a $20,000 bond.
The second charge of aggravated assault, a first-degree felony, listed the arresting agency as the Lufkin Police Department. The bond amount is $500,000.

Bond conditions will not allow him to come within 100 feet of the home or to possess a firearm.
