According to Lufkin Police on Sunday, June 9, 2024, in Lufkin, Texas Jason Penick, 47, was involved in a disturbance and then escalated it by firing at arriving officers. Penick barricaded himself in his in-laws' house in the 700 block of Clark Avenue.

The man's in-laws and other family in the home were evacuated safely by police. Any additional "shots" that were heard after the initial incident were tear gas canisters being launched into the house.

The Lufkin Police, Lufkin Police SWAT team, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Angelina County Sheriff's Office were on the scene. Penick was arrested and charged with aggravated assault against a public servant.

Barricaded Suspect Event In Lufkin Was Live Streamed

Someone with the Tiktok handle @yadii081 live-streamed the hours-long standoff as it happened. Many area residents were up watching until Penick was taken into custody around 3 AM.

Now that he is behind bars, the cleanup begins. The Lufkin home's front porch, front gate, doors, roof, and windows are completely gone or sustained damage during the standoff.

Family members have been staying in vehicles on the property to watch over the valuables they have left in the home. The grandfather has diabetes and limited mobility, and they are asking for assistance from the public.
