Nacogdoches County Felony Arrests July 19 – 25
One of the charges we sometimes see in the Nacogdoches County Jail roster is "Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence". Though it seems a little vague, I recently had a friend in law enforcement explain the charge more thoroughly.
Lorenso Turner, 28, of Porter, Texas, has a felony drug charge and a felony tampering charge. He was likely pulled over, and before being pulled over, threw his drugs outside of the car.
The officer behind him could have seen it happen. That is all it takes to add a felony to any, even minor, drug offense.
It would be best to keep the drugs on your person and be honest with the officer. Throwing them out of the window while a patrol car is behind you will just rack up the felonies.
If you do this late at night, and the officer has to bring backup with lights and scour the side of the highway to find what you threw out while he was behind you with his lights on, they will not go easy with the charges.
Being a police officer is a job like any other, and if you go out of your way to make it harder for them by tampering with evidence, then you will receive a felony charge, even if it is "just" an F3 and not a violent crime.
