Just over a year after a heartbreaking accident demolished the AutoZone in Lufkin, they are back and even better than before. The new store is right where the old one once stood at 1009 South Timberland Drive.

At 4:25 AM on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 an out-of-state truck driver hauling bananas had a medical emergency while driving. The truck left the road, struck the AutoZone, and ended up in Kiwanis Park.

The accident took out the parts storage area in the front of the building, which used to be El Pollino restaurant. The location was the Lufkin AutoZone for over 30 years after that.

Back when that happened we were worried that AutoZone might never reopen. It didn't make things better when they completely tore it down.

Fast forward to a few months later, and construction started on the site. We were going to have an AutoZone back in Lufkin after all.

Being a guy that is into all things automotive, having this place back so close to the station was going to be great. I noticed on Monday that they had finally completed construction and it seemed people were already going back to the store for their automotive needs.

I made it a point to stop in and see the brand-new store this morning. Once I walked in I was greeted with "Welcome To AutoZone" for the first time in over a year.

Take a look around and "Get In the Zone" with me in the new store with the photo gallery below. They are now open 7 days a week from 7:30 AM to 10 AM Mon-Sat and Sunday 8 AM to 8 PM.
