What Is Swimming?
We all know what swimming is when it is done at a pool or a waterpark, but what is swimming when you are on the highway? If you are driving in traffic and someone speeds to overtake you and weaves and bobs their way around multiple vehicles, that is swimming.
You might have noticed people doing this trend for years. Now there are entire YouTube and TikTok accounts highlighting this criminal activity on our Texas roads.
There are plenty of these viral videos where they are evading and taunting police into initiating a high-speed chase. Lane splitting, drifting, avoiding traffic signals, and cutting people off can all be a part of swimming.
Smooth Is Fast, Fast Is Smooth
Swimming is more than just cutting in traffic. When you bob and weave through the cars, you want it to be as smooth as possible. At higher speeds, the difficulty level is enhanced for the driver according to pandahub.
They do this while weaving through traffic. Leaving a small amount of space when they pass, and they usually pass multiple vehicles at the same time.

They go the wrong way down one-way streets and use bicycle lanes, all in a ploy to show skill or arrive at a destination faster. One wrong move and the game is over along with any collateral and physical damage they do.

Many swimmers use ghost cars without real plates. That is part of the reason Texas is cracking down on paper dealer plates and phasing them out in 2025.
