We are about a month into high school basketball season in East Texas.  Some teams already have over a dozen games under their belt, while others have hardly seen the hardwood thanks to deep runs in the football playoffs.

Let's take a look at how teams in the Pineywoods are faring in the latest Texas basketball rankings from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

We'll start with the boys.

In Class 3A, the Crockett Bulldogs are ranked 5th in the state.

In 2A, several Deep East Texas teams are in the top 25 including Shelbyville (#1), Grapeland (#2), Tenaha (#5), Broaddus (#13), Dallardsville Big Sandy (#17), and San Augustine (#21) who hasn't played a game yet this season due to still being in the football playoffs.

Moving to Class 1A, Oakwood (#5), Laneville (#8), Neches (#13), and Leggett (#15) represent our area in the top 25.

Meanwhile, in girl's basketball, Woodville's Lady Eagles check in at number 4 in Class 3A, while Woden (#4), Grapeland (#9), and Tenaha (#24) represent the Pineywoods in Class 2A, and in Class 1A, the Lady Owls of Chireno are ranked at #8.

Congratulations to the area teams and keep up the great work!!
