If you are looking for a Lone Star getaway close to home, trading the bustle of your normal life to go to the lake is always a winner. Texas has almost 7,000 lakes so you know we showed up on Country Living's "40 Best Small Lake Towns in the U.S".

Texas has not one but three great small towns that made the list. They are all known for their charming surroundings next to prime swimming holes.

Wimberly, Texas

I have friends who rave about Wimberly. Visit this little town between Austin and San Antonio and you'll dream of living there permanently one day. You can go to the Jacob's Well Natural Area, pictured above, the Blue Hole Regional Park, or check out Canyon Lake and open up the throttle on the boat.

Lakeway, Texas

Lakeway is also near Austin on Lake Travis. Being on a lake and in the hill country, you will get magnificent views. Quirky places on the lake are given since it's all part of keeping Austin weird. The Sand Dollar house, pictured above, was designed by John Covert Watson who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright.

Georgetown, Texas
