Texas Mom Warns Watching ‘Hocus Pocus 2′ Could “Unleash Hell”
I have Disney+ and last Friday when Hocus Pocus 2 came out I was among the many people that turned it on. I didn't give it a second thought but apparently, I should have.
According to KWTX.com in Waco, Texas a Central Texas mother in the small town of Troy took to Facebook to warn parents about the Disney sequel.
“A worst case scenario is: you unleash hell on your kids and in your home,” said Jamie Gooch, “The whole movie is based on witches harvesting children for blood sacrifices.”
The original post from Facebook was either removed or the privacy settings were changed. Some people were surprised by the mother and her views but I was not.
There are many deeply religious people here in East Texas that feel the same way about things as seemingly innocuous as a Disney movie about witches.
Satanic Panic Is Still Alive And Well In Small Texas Communities
In the 1980s in rural Texas towns, there were many that believed the false accusations of the abuse of children in satanic rituals. I believe that culminated in things like the now defunct Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) and many parents making sure children didn't listen to certain music or consume media that was thought to be too explicit or of the devil.
“Do not watch this film,” she warned, “Everybody thinks it’s fake and innocent, but they could be casting any type of spell that they want to, anything could be coming through that TV screen into your home.”
This conservative Christian way of thinking is still very prevalent in this and many other areas of the state. These views are currently thought of as very backward and even comical by outsiders.
I can assure you it is very real to this woman and she is not alone. See the interview with Jamie Gooch below.
