Want to get involved in events in Nacogdoches?
Homecoming Week is officially here at Stephen F. Austin State University! Here’s the rundown of what events the community can participate in.
First up on Tuesday October 22nd WONDER WOMAN 5K @ the SFA Campus Recreation Center location off Wilson Dr. next to Lot 14. The registration cost is $30 for students, faculty and alumni community is $35. There is a discount available If you use the word “SOCIAL” but it only lasts till’ race day. Up to $10 off registration can be saved. Capes are highly recommended to show of your inner superhero.
Next on Thursday we have a STEP SHOW featuring Darren Brand from Mean Girls. Tickets to attend this event will be $3 for students make sure to bring your ID and $6 for Faculty/Staff and Community. Come out and enjoy the show plus witness the winner of the $1,000 grand prize.
On Friday Oct 25th PURPLE RAVE OUT & TORCHLIGHT PARADE leading up to our annual BONFIRE. This event begins at 7pm at the AG Pond and will end at the Intramural Field. It’s going to get cold that night so make sure to bundle up. However, the bonfire will definitely keep you warm and toasty while you’re enjoying live music. Toasting marshmallows is definitely not recommended.
On Saturday October 26th we have a downtown parade beginning at 10am. Community is encouraged to come out and watch from the brick streets of Nacogdoches, line up where you find space. Enjoy the sea of purple and the portrayal of the lumberjack spirit.
LUMBERJACKS GAMES: Beginning at 9am on Oct 26th you can also go and watch the award winning timber sports team, The Sylvans. Community is invited to see what ti takes to be a lumberjack or lumberjill. Axe throwing, cross cut sawing, caber toss and tug of war will take place. Definitely a sight to see just make sure to keep your kiddos within view. We don’t want anyone getting hurt.
SFA HOMECOMING GAME: After the parade you can make your way to SFA Ag Pond and take part in the tailgate before the game kicks off at 3 pm. There will be “Tailgate Wars” where each booth competes against the next in hopes of being crowned the winner. This competitions is put on by an SFA organization and a grand prize will be awarded to the winning booth. .
