These Angelina County Businesses Needed To Make Improvements After Last Inspection
The Angelina County and Cities Health District has been busy making the rounds in the first quarter of 2024. According to the Lufkin Daily News, this report covered inspections from February 13, 2024 through March 2, 2024.
These reports aren't about the quality of the food, they focus on how clean the restaurants or businesses are. These are condensed overviews of the inspections.
Big's Convenience Store In Central Had 27 Violations
Big's No.3825 on Highway 69 North in Central was inspected on February 22nd. The ice machine was observed to have slime residue on the ice shield and inside the bin. Two pizzas in a hot hold display cabinet had expired and were not being maintained at 135 degrees were discarded. An employee was observed wearing a dirty apron. There were no food handler certificates on site for review. Food in the facility was being stored on the floor. Unlabeled containers of food were discarded.
58 Junction Gets 4 Violations During Latest Inspection
58 Junction was inspected on February 22nd as well. They noted chipping paint on the walls in the food prep area. Damaged storage containers were also pointed out; however, the manager said they were phasing them out. They also need to seal the utility lines at the box by the employee restroom.
Murphy USA Convenience Store Received 13 Violations
Murphy USA No.7653 in the Walmart shopping center in Lufkin was inspected on February 21st. They saw single service cups stored directly on the floor in a back prep area and walk-in cooler. Since they sell ice which is considered food, all food employees must take a food handlers course, and no certificates were observed at the location. The rear hand sink was being used as storage, among other issues.
Dairy Queen In Diboll Got 14 Violations During Latest Inspection
The Dairy Queen No.14024 at 202 North Temple Drive was inspected on February 15th. Inspectors noted a chipping ice machine baffle and the walk-in cooler was not sealing, thus not maintaining 41 degrees. The food in the freezer was at 45 degrees, and rusted shelving was observed inside. There were missing ceiling tiles, plywood placed on top of missing floor tiles, and a leaking sink with a bucket in the ware-washing area.
Big's In Front Of New Atwoods Had 9 Violations
Big's No.3850 on the loop in Lufkin was inspected on February 15th. Inspectors noted that a general cleaning was needed inside the reach-in coolers to remove debris. No dates were found on any of the Deli Express sandwiches. Twenty-one sandwiches were discarded. A sink basin was very dirty with significant food residue buildup, among other issues. No food handlers certification was onsite for review.

Pelican Pointe On The Loop In Lufkin Had 8 Violations
Pelican Pointe on the Loop in Lufkin was inspected on February 12th. A dishwashing employee was observed loading a mechanical ware-washing machine with single-use gloves. He then unloaded the dishwasher with the same soiled gloves. A general cleaning of dusty fan covers in the walk-in coolers was advised. A black residue was found in the ice bin, and they advised them not to use it until it was cleaned. Pink and black residue was observed in the bar's fountain machine gun.
