
Lufkin, Texas January Restaurant Inspections Find Multiple Violations
Being in charge of a restaurant is a very big deal. It is a huge responsibility and a major undertaking.
Not only do you have to have amazing food, but you have to be able to pass inspections when the local health department shows up. Preventing cross-contamination and enforcing employee hand washing is paramount to customer health.
The Angelina County and Cities Health District report for the week of January 17 - 24, 2024 had only one restaurant with no violations out of the 6 Lufkin restaurants inspected, according to the Lufkin Daily News.
These reports only take into account the cleanliness of the restaurant or business, not the quality of the food.
Outback Steakhouse in Lufkin Had Zero Violations
Outback Steakhouse No.4433 at 2206 South First Street was inspected on January 17, 2024, and had zero violations.
Larkspur Skilled Nursing at 201 South John Redditt Drive also had an inspection that day and got one violation. They were advised to replace or repair a dry utensil storage shelf.
Parkwood in The Pines at 902 Hill Street was inspected that same day and received 2 violations. No certified food manager was onsite and no permit was posted.
Brookshire Brothers No. 1 at 301 South Chestnut was inspected on January 18 and received 9 violations. Some recommendations included replacing the meat market floors, removing employee personal drinks near food prep surfaces, and maintaining proper food temperatures.
Ostioneria Mi Tierra Cocina at 4110 South First Street also had an inspection that day and got 16 violations. An employee put on gloves before washing their hands, no bodily fluid cleanup kit, and there were raw animal food separation and storage issues.
Tsubaki Japanese Steak House In Lufkin Gets 57 Violations
Tsubaki Japanese Steak House at 2301 South First Street in Lufkin was inspected on January 24 and received 57 violations. Inspectors observed the following issues among others.
The food manager onsite was unable to state cooking temperatures or hot or cold holding temperatures. No employees were observed washing their hands correctly. Food employees were eating in the kitchen when inspectors arrived. Raw chicken was stored on top of salmon. There were no labels on food items. Rodent droppings were observed around the outside of the walk-in cooler, and a dead pest was found on a container lid in shelving used to store clean dishes.

Some Inspections Are A Starting Point For Restaurants To Improve
These observations were made almost a month ago at the time of this writing. This allows for plenty of time for these restaurants to make improvements, and does not reflect the current conditions.
