Burn Ban Now Officially In Effect Again For Lufkin, Texas

[UPDATE] After heavy rains on Friday, October 28th 2022 this burn ban has been lifted by the City Of Lufkin.

Earlier in the month, Angelina County put out a burn ban for the county. It was officially enacted on October 4th, 2022.

It was pretty straightforward, at least to me that we were under a burn ban. I was really confused because driving around Lufkin I was seeing and smelling smoke near Lowe's and I didn't hear about any uncontrolled fires in the area.

Things became clearer on October 13th, 2022 when the City Of Lufkin issued its burn ban. When Angelina County puts out a burn ban it is only applicable to the unincorporated portions of the county, not the cities and towns.

Angelina County Burn Ban Is In Effect For 7 Days After Issuance

Once a week the county will reassess the fire danger for the area. The only burn ban that I can find for Angelina County ran out on October 11th, 2022, but I will have to assume that it is still active, just not updated on their site.

The burn ban that was enacted by the City Of Lufkin has a length of 60 days before it has to be reissued. They have prohibited all outdoor burning of brush, trees, storm debris, and open campfires.

There is a serious drought in Texas right now, and there are currently 136 counties out of a total 254 counties in Texas with a burn ban. The entire state could really use some rain.

Tropical Storm Karl Completely Misses The Gulf Coast

There was hope of rain and some fears of something worse with tropical storm, Karl, in the Gulf of Mexico. Now that it is not a threat to the area and will only affect Mexico, hope is slim for heavy rain in our future.

As of right now, there is a 60% chance of rain this Sunday, October 16th, 2022. If it does rain enough, any of these burn bans could be immediately lifted.

It will continue to be a bit confusing for some when it comes to burn bans. If you plan on burning, you can always call your local law enforcement to double check whether you can burn or not.
