Ellen Trout Zoo Set to Reopen on Monday, May 11

I wonder if the animals at Ellen Trout Zoo are wondering where all the people went. Do they miss folks coming up to their cages and making strange faces at them?  Or how about a weird DJ who antagonizes the kookaburras?

The Ellen Trout Zoo has been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic since March 16, however, we have some good news.  According to an e-mail sent by the zoo's director, Gordon Henley, the zoo will reopen on a limited basis beginning Monday, May 11.

In order to reopen as safely as possible, several operational changes will be put in place. The zoo will be open at 10am and close at 4pm, with the last entry at 3:30pm. All buildings, except restrooms, will be closed and guests will be limited only to outdoor spaces and exhibits. Groups will be limited to family groups living in the same household and family groups must maintain a 6 foot distance from other family groups. General admission rates will apply.

Ellen Trout Zoo staff will be frequently sanitizing restrooms and touchable surfaces throughout the zoo and again after the zoo closes. Masks and social distancing are strongly encouraged for all visitors. Since concessions and vending machines will be closed and the lion water fountain will not be available, guests are encouraged to bring their own refreshments.

The Ellen Trout Zoo Train is not expected to be open at this time.  Monitor the Ellen Trout Zoo Facebook Page for further updates.
