If you love Ellen Trout Zoo, and cake and punch, celebrate their 50th this Saturday.

The Ellen Trout Zoo Opened Saturday June 17, 1967 at 1 pm. Since that day, kids, and now kids grown into adults, have made amazing memories there. Make some more memories with the zoo this Saturday. They will have a ribbon cutting for the re-dedication for the next 50 years. Join K-Fox 955 and everyone from Ellen Trout Zoo at 10 am at the zoo's entrance. To celebrate this Silver Anniversary, after the ribbon cutting there will be cake and punch, for as long as it lasts, in the zoos events area. Everyone is invited to join us in this celebration.

The Ellen Trout Zoo has accomplished so much since they started as a place for Lufkin Industry's President, Walter Trout, to store his Christmas present. He received a 500-pound hippopotamus, from a "friend", purchased from the Dallas Zoo. He then came up with the idea to give the city a zoo, named after his mother, Ellen.

I personally have gone to this zoo since I was a child, and so have my children. It will be a nice day to get out and remember where the zoo was, and where it is going.
