Woman Killed When Train Hits Car on Southwood Drive in Lufkin
Lufkin Police are reporting a very sad event that happened early Christmas morning. Police are investigating a train vs. vehicle fatality that occurred just after midnight on Southwood Drive outside Loop 287.
Union Pacific officials contacted the Department at 12:19 a.m. to report that an SUV had just pulled out in front of a train from a private drive crossing. The vehicle came to rest in the 3100 block of Southwood Drive. After arriving on scene, officers found the female driver deceased.
Union Pacific officials told officers it appeared that the woman pulled onto the tracks and waited for a collision. As officers were responding to the scene, dispatch took a call from the woman’s friend, stating the woman was suicidal and wanting to kill herself by train.
Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Billy Ball pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
