20 Booked On Felony Charges In Angelina County May 19 – 25

There were 20 felony arrests in Angelina County the week of Sunday, May 19th through Saturday, May 25, 2024. Each person booked into the Angelina County Jail is considered innocent until proven guilty.

The charges this week range from sexual assault of a child to an attempt to take a weapon from an officer. We are also back up to 20 felony arrests this week and fewer female arrests.

The one thing that stood out to me this week was the age of the felons arrested. Many of them were over the age of 40, one nearing 70 years old.

Felons In Texas Can Get Their Guns Back

One of the charges that I see fairly often is felon in possession of a firearm. According to the Texas Law Library, section 46.04 of the Texas Penal Code, it is illegal for someone convicted of a felony to possess a firearm.

In Texas, after 5 years the law allows for felons to possess a firearm at home. That is only after completing their prison sentence, including parole or probation, and if they don't reoffend.

That means that some of the people you see on our list will not have a firearm with them, without catching an additional charge, ever.

Texas Defies Federal Law With This Allowance

According to federal law, anyone who was convicted of a felony crime that involved being in jail for more than a year can't ever possess a firearm again.
