Two Murals In Nacogdoches To Get Finishing Touches
Artist Michelle Filer recently added some finishing touches to the mural she started painting in 2023 with photos from Wendy Floyd as a reference. The mural is titled "Garden Capital of Texas" to commemorate the city's designation from the State of Texas on May 2, 2013.
You have likely seen the creation on the Johnson Furniture wall located at Main and North Street. It lives up to the narrative that the city's Main Street Advisory Board has been working to share about positive things in the Oldest Town in Texas.
The additions were made possible by Gary D Griffin for helping with the scaffolding, and the staff at Firestone nearby for helping move it around so Filer and Dixie Rose Daniel could get the painting done in one day.
Trees were trimmed back, so you could see the upper portion of the mural. Scrollwork was added to the corners, and the wording has been redone.
According to the Daily Sentinel, the mural was privately funded by Johnson Furniture with paint and equipment supplied by donors.
