  • Tia Juanita's has become the go-to 'Mexi-Cajun' restaurant in East and South-East Texas.
  • It is a popular destination for live music, fish, and shellfish.
  • These inspections do not speak to the quality or taste of the food.

If you have never been to Tia Juanita's you are missing something. We were so glad this chain came to Lufkin in the summer of 2021.

I have friends that have worked there behind the bar and on the stage. It just has a great vibe, and stands out in a sea of normal restaurants in Lufkin.

According to the Lufkin Daily News a recent full restaurant inspection on February 7, 2023 by the Angelina County & Cities Health District led to 22 violations at this popular restaurant.

Bread Stored On Same Shelf With Raw Fish At Tia Juanita's In Lufkin

Observations by the inspectors included encrusted deposits in ovens, ice buildup in the freezer, and water on the floor in a walk-in cooler. They also found bread stored on the same shelf with raw fish in a make-table, among other issues that included thawing and cold holding.

Most of the violations were corrected immediately. This inspection was almost a month ago, so hopefully all of the issues have been corrected at this time. A few other local restaurants were also inspected around the same time.

All previous violations have been corrected at the Crown Colony Country Club, and there were no priority violations. They only had 2 violations on February 7.

Dairy Queen located at 202 N. Temple Drive in Diboll had a full inspection on February 8th, 2023 and received 28 violations. A few of these violations involved rusted shelving in a walk-in cooler, rust and chipping paint in a walk-in cooler, and a rusted ice scoop. There were no priority violations, and a full remodel of the location is coming soon.
