Lufkin Mexican Food Spot Gets 50 Health Code Violations
The Angelina County and Cities Health District ensures all of our area restaurants are clean and up to code. According to the Lufkin Daily News, a Lufkin favorite received 50 health code violations.
The Angelina County and Cities Heath District released another round of health inspections for the summer. They conducted these assessments over a month ago, and hopefully any violations found have been corrected.
25 eating establishments were inspected from May 14 - June 18, 2024. The reports are made to keep the public safe and to determine the cleanliness of the restaurant, not the taste of the food.
Mexico Express On Frank In Lufkin Receives 50 Violations
This popular Mexican food restaurant on Frank St. in Lufkin was inspected on May 28th. Many of the violations were because of food handling practices and lack of food handler's certifications.
The inspectors observed the following on their visit:
- Uncovered containers of raw fish above the cheese and salsa in the reach-in cooler.
- Raw eggs stored near ready-to-eat foods were exposed.
- Office storage containers used for seasonings.
- Dirty wet wiping cloths on food prep surfaces.
- An employee was observed working on a pot of food that he placed on the floor.
- Foods held out of temperature.
- Dirty knives on the magnetic strip.
- Grease build-up on walls.
The inspectors then increased the frequency of inspection to every three months.
Tsubaki Makes Huge Turnaround In Lufkin
Tsubaki made a big improvement from their February 5, 2024 inspection. They were praised for addressing 13 out of 14 priority violations since their last inspection.
