In Lufkin, you usually only get one chance to keep a favorite restaurant in town. Once they close down, they are gone for good.

Many amazing chains and hometown restaurants have come and gone over the years. I never thought that we would get one back.

If you were a fan of Mr. Gatti's Pizza you are in Luck. Though we lost our location in front of where Atwoods is long ago, they are coming back.

Mr. Gatti's Pizza Makes A Return To Lufkin

Though this chain never went away, they have been bought and sold many times. There are 44 Gatti's Pizza restaurants in their home state of Texas.

75 total locations according to their website. That number is about to get a lot bigger.

According to the Lufkin Daily News Mr Gatti's Pizza has gotten together with Walmart. They will open 12 new stores in the big box retailers in North Texas and Oklahoma, including one in Lufkin.

Mr. Gatti's Pizza To Replace McDonald's

Though the new iteration of the restaurant won't feature its signature buffet pizza style, it will be in the areas of these stores previously occupied by McDonald's.

Golden arches started coming off the side of Walmart stores in 2021 due to the pandemic. Now this local pizza chain is finding a big opportunity by utilizing these spaces in the big box retailers.

Now Walmart is entering into a competition of sorts with Sam's next door for the best pizza in the shopping center. The restaurant should open sometime before the holiday shopping season.
