Nacogdoches Big Lots Among Stores Closing After Bankruptcy

If you go to the website for the Nacogdoches Big Lots! you will see a big orange banner at the top that reads "CLOSING THIS LOCATION - Closing sale going on now!". They are also boasting savings of up to 20%.

The Kilgore location's website has a similar banner offering savings of up to 25%. Why don't we get that extra 5% at the Big Lots here?

Whatever the reason, this is the second time Nacogdoches had a Big Lots location and the second time the company pulled the plug. The store's opening was met with fanfare when it opened in the Nacogdoches Marketplace II Shopping Center located at 4919 North Street Suite 101 just a couple of years ago.

We even had spy pictures of the inside being built in 2021.

 Big Lots Not Closing Profitable Low Rent Facilities

When operating a business, overhead is a big deal. That makes me think that the Lufkin store must operate with lower overhead and higher profits.

This location just 20 miles down the road from the Nacogdoches Big Lots is not slated for closure despite the September bankruptcy filing. According to KETK, the big box retailer has locations in every state in the continental U.S.

Of the original 1,389 locations they had before the filing, almost 600 will eventually be shut down by January 15, 2024. Shutting down stores right after the holiday shopping season is a likely plan.

What Is Coming Next To The Marketplace II In Nacogdoches?

This is at least the second store to hold this flagship location at this modern Nacogdoches strip mall. It was a Stage before it was turned into a Big Lots.

Coming Soon: Nacogdoches To Get New Buffet-Style Restaurant 

Now we can fantasize about what new business will be coming to eventually take its place. The location is too big for another donut shop or car wash and too small for H.E.B., so I am at a loss.
