If you ever lettered in an extracurricular activity or took a dance class in the Lufkin area, chances are you likely went to Grizzly's to buy something you needed. For 46 years their business, converted from a home at 628 South First Street, was the place to get key items you needed to be in marching band, drill team, twirling, and more.

According to Janice Ann's Journal in the Lufkin Daily News, the store's owner Sharon Adams is moving locations. In March 2024 she was selling stock to downsize on the Grizzly's Facebook page.

She will move the store to her home at 1847 Carrell Road soon. Hours will be by appointment only from 10 am to 5 pm.

Grizzly's Location Bought By Pineywoods Community Academy

I was amazed to learn that the property Grizzly's was on has been purchased by the Pineywwoods Community Academy. They have expanded their footprint many times and when you thought they might outgrow the area, they keep buying.

To get an idea of the scale of things to come for the Pineywoods Community Academy, they have purchased a lot of area. I've just circled the ones that I have heard about.

This could one day be a massive school, and I think they might eventually even dead-end South Raguet Street there. With improvements going on downtown and on South Angelina Ave, many things are happening in this older part of Lufkin.
