
Cop Shooter Sentenced: Ramirez Gets 50 Years in Nacogdoches
On December 29, 2023, the Texas Rangers came to Nacogdoches to investigate an officer-involved shooting, as is normal protocol. According to a press release from the Nacogdoches Police Department, an unnamed officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop at South Fredonia Street and South Street.
During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle fired multiple rounds at the officer. At least one of the bullets hit the officer's vehicle, but the officer was not injured in the shooting.

The officer returned fire at the vehicle as the suspects fled the scene. They had no information about the shooter and were asking the public at the time for help in locating them.
Two Arrested For Aggravated Assault Of A Public Servant
On January 2, 2024, the Nacogdoches Police Department arrested two men for aggravated assault against a public servant in connection with the shooting: Jose Iraheta, 25, and Gabriel Ramirez, 19, both of Nacogdoches.

Iraheta's bond was set at almost $1.4 million and Ramirez's at just over $1 million. Multiple law enforcement agencies worked to put the case together against these two would-be cop killers.
Gabriel Ramirez Gets His Day In Court
According to the Nacogdoches Police Department, Gabriel Ramirez, now 20, pleaded guilty to the charges related to the shooting of the NPD officer. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
