According to the Daily Sentinel, officers were called to the 8300 block of FM 343, Girtz's residence, regarding a reported assault, likely involving his girlfriend.
Girtz further escalated the situation by spitting on officers and wielding the bat. It remains unclear whether his facial injuries occurred before or after these actions.

Girtz was charged with family-violence assault, interfering with public duties, resisting arrest, two counts of obstruction or retaliation, and assaulting a public servant.

No bond has been set. The charges include both misdemeanors and third-degree felonies.
