Two Arrested Following High Speed Chase in Lufkin and Nacogdoches

Five separate law enforcement agencies were involved in a high-speed chase that took place early Thursday morning throughout Nacogdoches and Angelina Counties.

According to a report from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, Aaron Wilson Briggs, 40, (left in picture below) and Bryan Adam Scott, 37, both of Channelview, Texas, are currently in the Nacogdoches County Jail. Briggs has been charged with possession of a controlled substance while Scott faces felonies for evading arrest with a vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

The incident started early Thursday morning around 3:50 a.m. when a Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Deputy noticed a grey 2012 Toyota 4Runner that had been reported stolen from the Dallas area. The officer alerted Nacogdoches Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety. He then activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop in the 10,000 block of U.S. Highway 59 South.

The driver of the 4Runner refused to pull over and began to evade law enforcement. The chase continued onto the Southeast Loop in Nacogdoches and then to the intersection with Highway 7. The driver then turned westbound and continued through the downtown area.

The pursuit eventually continued back onto Highway 59 and progressed to the Lufkin city limits. At this point, Lufkin Police deployed a spike strip and successfully punctured the driver's tires. The driver continued onto Highway 103 before finally pulling over and surrendering to authorities.

A substance suspected to be methamphetamine as well as marijuana was found after an inventory of the 4Runner. Additional charges are possible in this case.

Along with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, the Nacogdoches Police Department, Department of Public Safety, Angelina County Sheriff's Office and Lufkin Police Department all assisted in this arrest.
